Thor’s Hammer, known as Mjölnir, is one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of Norse mythology. Wielded by Thor – the god of thunder – Mjölnir was said to protect both Asgard and Midgard (Earth) from giants and the forces of chaos. More than just a divine weapon, it has come to represent strength, protection, and a proud cultural identity rooted in Viking heritage.
Developed in collaboration with the Sagastad Viking Center and designed by goldsmith Kathrine Berg, the Sagastad collection draws inspiration from archaeological discoveries in Viking graves at Nordfjordeid. Naturally, Thor’s Hammer had to be included in the collection. This powerful symbol was widely used on medallions and jewelry during the Viking Age, often worn for protection and as an expression of faith in the Norse gods.
At Sylvsmidja, the legendary symbol of Thor’s Hammer is reimagined as finely crafted pendants, earrings, and charms. These are not merely accessories, but wearable pieces of history that connect modern life with the legacy of the Norse people.
Made from 925 sterling silver, each hammer features authentic Viking motifs that reflect the artistry of the age. In Viking times, silver was more than a precious metal – it was the cornerstone to their economy, social structure, and aesthetic expression. It symbolized wealth, facilitated trade, and was transformed into intricate objects and jewelry, much like the pieces in this collection.
These pendants can be worn on a silver chain for a clean look, or opt for a black leather cord for a more rugged style. The design is inspired by a pattern from a Viking sword found in a burial mound that dates to the early 900s and the angular shapes of the crucial iron rivets in the Myklebust ship.
Sylvsmidja is renowned for preserving Norwegian craftsmanship through Bunad silver and high quality jewelry. Each piece is made with precision, passion, and deep respect for Nordic heritage.
